Nathan Hawrot
Lead Planner and portfolio manager
From an early age, Nathan was drawn to math, science, and especially economics. His passion for understanding how numbers shape decisions began in high school, where he studied Economics under Mr. Michael Grenfell. During that time, he joined the investment club, a group that met to discuss stock ideas and market trends. David Sculati would occasionally visit these meetings, offering insights that challenged our short-term thinking. While they focused on buying stocks like Toys “R” Us before Christmas or Marvel ahead of a new Spider-Man movie, David explained that true investing looks years ahead, not months.
After high school, Nathan worked at several electronics retailers before landing at Best Buy as a full-time sales associate while attending the University of Michigan–Dearborn with a focus on economics. One day, Mr. Grenfell walked into the store to offer him a job opportunity. When Nathan explained to him that he already had a job, Mr. Grenfell asked if Nathan wanted a “real job,” and soon reconnected him with David Sculati, who was looking for someone to join his team. That conversation changed the course of Nathan's career.
Nathan began working part-time with David, creating simple asset allocation reports while continuing his undergraduate studies. At David's recommendation, Nathan switched his major from economics to finance and completed his degree at U of M–Dearborn. David’s vision was clear: he wanted Nathan to build financial plans for clients and eventually become a Certified Financial Planner™. In 2012, when David launched Lone Pine Wealth Management, later renamed Sculati Wealth Management, Nathan joined him full-time while still managing a Geek Squad team at Best Buy. Together, they worked to bring David's dream of a holistic wealth management firm to life.
Over the past 20 years, Nathan has grown alongside the firm. He successfully completed the CFP® program and passed the final exam. During that time, Sculati Wealth has expanded from managing $30 million in assets to nearly $400 million today. Nathan's role spans nearly every facet of Sculati Wealth Management: He designs and maintains financial plans, constructs investment portfolios, collaborates with external partners, and researches strategies to meet client goals. Nathan also manages operational tasks, like answering calls, completing paperwork, overseeing compliance, and maintaining Sculati Wealth's automated trading platform. Beyond that, he attends client meetings, coordinates with other professionals, and continually looks for ways to improve efficiency and enhance client service. Nathan even helped design this new website and created educational content like the blog posts you’ll find here.
Outside of work, Nathan lives in Grand Rapids and enjoy exploring the city’s restaurants and breweries, as well as relaxing at home. He lifts weights three to four times a week, enjoys racket sports, and recently started golfing. Nathan is an avid "gamer", primarily PC, and a lifelong Detroit sports fan, especially the Red Wings and Lions. He has a cat named Merris who has been with him for over a decade. He also enjoys presentations and has created slideshows for weddings, sporting events, and memorials. His interests are eclectic, from music to gaming, and he's always looking for new things to do.
At the core of his work is a belief that everyone deserves an honest, reliable, and trustworthy advisor. Nathan also believes that everyone deserves a completely personalized financial plan. Helping people put numbers to their goals and dreams is what drives him. Nathan takes pride in breaking down complex concepts into clear, actionable steps and guiding clients toward financial confidence. Life will always throw curveballs, but planning for the straight path, and knowing how to adjust when things change, is essential.
That’s the philosophy Nathan brings to every financial plan: creating strategies that are attainable, understandable, and built to adapt.
